History:
THE SZCZECIN GŁÓWNY RAILWAY STATION is one of the oldest railway stations in Poland. The first train arrived at the station, named Berlinerbahnhof at that time (Berlin railway station), on 15 August 1843, initiating the first railroad in Pomerania. The station building, altered a lot of times and reconstructed after World War II and existing to this day, had been constructed around 1900. The station also includes an air-raid shelter located next to it. It is the largest civil shelter of World War II in Poland. Nowadays, the Szczecin Główny station awaits a profound refurbishment. According to the plans, by the end of 2014, an integrated hub consolidating railway, road, bus and tram transport will be built at the station and in its nearby. Near the station, there will be a hub of Szczecin Metropolitan Region.
